It has been a crazy few months since my last post. All sorts of ups and downs have kept us very busy, but Spike and Charlie have become part of the family and we are still so very happy to have them here with us.
Spike has astounded us all with his incredible ability to adapt. He has come from a life roaming the acreage he lived on, to living in an enclosure and he's taken it all in stride. Spike loves to scratch the wood of the enclosure. We got some carpet to cover up his favourite bits, so that the enclousure doesn't collapse! He also loves to jump up on to the top of the enclosure and survey his little kingdom.
We were a little worried when Spike first joined us that he would be bored and want to excape his new space, but he seems to love the security and attention he gets. He is very big on kisses and cuddles. Just get near enough and he will give you a little "head butt" kiss or jump up on to your shoulder to cuddle up in the crook of your neck and purr away.
Charlie is just a great big ball of gorgeous. She's 9 years old but you wouldn't know it by her personality. At first Charlie was very wary of the new people around her, but she quickly came out of her shell (she loves her food - and we were the ones feeding her - go figure). She had been spending all day hiding under a piece of metal in the place her and her owner were staying at after their house was destroyed in the floods, and she had over-groomed her back legs, bottom and belly to the extent she looked more like a poodle with a good hair cut than a cat with a bad one. With lots of love, pats and brushing (she is long haired and loves a good brushing), she has grown back most of the hair on her legs, all of it on her bottom and has a good padding of fluffy new hair on her tummy. She has also managed to grow a good winter coat which will do well in keeping her warm on the cold Ipswich nights that are coming.
Charlie now waits at the door when she hears us coming, to say a lovely little hello vocalisation, and await her pats and kisses. She also loves the little bed we bought for her and spends a lot of time comfortably curled up watching the world go by.
The floods here have devastated many people, as well as their animals. We've heard a number of stories about people having to give up their beloved pets as they just can't have them at rental accomodations where they have to stay until their houses are built. We are so happy to be able to help a family keep their beloved pets somewhere they feel safe and loved.
